So a guy gave me expired chocolates and old flowers, any thoughts?

Well, assuming it's the first time something like this has happened (that is, any other stuff he's gotten you has been more appropriate), I'd probably assume it was a mistake- perhaps it was old stuff, heavily discounted? How far past the expiration date was the candy (that's only the date where the store guarantees it fresh, and if it's a "best by" instead of a "use by", doubly so)? How wilted were the flowers? If the answer is "only slightly", then it's probably not ill-intended.

Redflag. Even if he didn´t intend to I think it´s a sign that he doesn´t really care about you and felt pressured to give you something. I don´t think it´s a positive sign but rather a reason to keep an eye on his further actions to check if that was just one mistake or he shows more signs that he doesn´t care about you.

Take a closer at how he´s treating you in the future. If he shows you his love and appreciation for you I would say it´s just a mistake he did because he either didn´t see the chocolate was expired and bought some cheap flowers that lost their beauty so they now look like old ones.
If that´s the case I don´t think there´s something to worry.
The other option could be is that lost interest and therefore didn´t care much about buying you expired chocolate. Then it could be that he did it on purpose.

Let it pass this time, but if it becomes a habit of being thoughtless about what kind of things he gifts you, then mention it about why he isn't more selective.

It means that he isn't observant or doesn't put any thought into it. I doubt he's doing it on purpose, some people just don't care about details and grab whatever is there. It's like going to buy a loaf of bread and grabbing the first thing in front that's all smashed up. Some people just dgaf and need to be more mindful about how their actions will be received.
