Texting the ex?

As you prob have heard, the wildfires are happening & loads of people and wildlife are being affected. My ex resides in one of the hot zones & we broke up 2 months ago bc he wanted to work things out with his ex due to their child. Regardless, he broke my heart & had to let him go. I felt bad today about the wildfires and reached out to him to make sure him and his family are safe. He immediately responded back saying that all is well and they’re safe. He asked me if I was well. I replied with a short response and said yes all is good. I left it as that. Of course, this was truly emotional for me bc I have soooooo many feelings for him, but I’m working on myself and moving forward. He wanted friendship & I said no 2 months ago. For him to respond quickly today & also send back a neutral response, does this mean anything or was this just a polite exchange of words? He knows I’m terribly upset about this and didn’t want to talk to him, but I wanted this text message to at least imply that communication can be open if that’s what he wants to do down the road. I’m not messaging anymore. I am just saying, it is safe to talk if you want. I am not pissed off anymore.

What do you think? And, yes, I need to move on right now and see other people. But, this text message felt good. I was miserable for 2 months without communication thinking he thought I hated him, which I don’t.

Lol the twisted mind of women. Women reject men but then wonder why he’s not talking to me. They initiate breakup, then get mad when he doesn’t want anything to do w them. You just said you told him no as far as being friends. Now you’re trying to hint to him that this is your way of saying I’m open to talking if you want too. Women call men confusing. Let it go. I’m sure he was fine. If he wasn’t he would have reached out to you. This was just small talk. There’s a chance you’re going to sabotage what he has going on right now. Now he’s wondering why did she text? Does she still have feelings for me? Etc. etc.

I think breakups are highly emotive. And, when he suggested friendship after we broke up, I think it wasn’t fair to be friends w/ someone I truly care for. I even stated to him that bc he needed the break up, I needed to let him go even though I loved him. He wanted to continue to keep in touch. I simply said no bc it’s also weird to have an ex hit you up if you’re trying to date someone else. But, the last 2 months have been awful bc I felt like I lost a friend & also, didn’t feel good how it ended. I was too emotional and didn’t think it through while also unfriending him. I simply texted him bc I know his fam and the wildfires are truly terrible where he lives. It was as neutral as I could be without interfering with his emotions bc I know he has things he need to sort out. He was just as neutral back. I don’t think there were any expectations here except two people checking in.

Perspective with context is key. But, for the most part, exes mustn’t be friends. It’s too hard. I just wanted to let him know I still cared and I’m not bitter about this. Communication is always welcomed, but of course in context. Bc playing with someone’s emotions isn’t cool.
