I agree with one of the commenter below's sentiment. The individual is probably seeking closure of some sort. We women tend to forget men came from women, and that they share the same feelings of longing and missing as we do. This means that we can experience a wide range of emotions, even within the constraints of the linear passage of time. Whenever he resurfaces, he probably had a nostaglic moment of you. He'll probably keep having those moments until he dies. Those moments may be fleeting, but they will have a lasting impact on his life. No matter what he does, he will always remember you and the love you shared. You don't always have to respond back, you can end that timeline of communication, but it is a fact that you left an impression on him for a lifetime. Could be a good thing, could be a horrible thing, but in the end, it's an "at the end of the day" type thing.
