Why would a coworker only approach me when no one else is around?

My coworker lately started approaching me to offer me help/training and remains strictly professional. Sometimes he gives me long cold/angry stares when he walks by but he is never chummy as he is with everyone else. Could he be embarrassed of me?

It’s possible that he likes you. He doesn’t come around you when there’s others because he wants to be alone w you, may feel awkward as well when there’s others around, nervous. Maybe he wants your undivided attention. He doesn’t want to gives others the idea that he likes you so he acts “cold” as you say to not make it look obvious how he feels. Just a shot in the dark.
