People who can't hold eye contact? are they liars or shy?

This question has been on my mind since long most of the times when i am on date the guy finds it difficult to hold eye contact with me during conversation or can say in general guys can't look straight in my eyes for long while talking is it because they are lying or shy?

It doesn't really mean anything. Someone could use eye contact/eye movements as a ruse to deceive you during your attempt to evaluate them. You ask them things you know are true. They give you honest answers but play with their eyes to screw up your evaluation. At any time they can throw you off the trail by manipulating the assumptions you have made about body language.

Shyness is the first reason. If lying was the reason for not making eye contact, it's unlikely that all the guys you meet are liars. I am not a liar. I can't make eye contact when communicating with girls. Because I'm shy

Could be both. Eye contact sometimes can be intimidating.

Sometimes it's a self-confidence thing. Especially if someone experienced abuse as a child.

It can be those 2 factors or from personal experience it means they also might not be interested and waiting for the date to end

Could be shy or autistic. Some people with autism have a hard time making any eye contact
