What else could he say. You shut him down, locked the door and rejected the whole idea. The idea that you expected a reply might indicate you didn't intend to shut him down, but instead wanted him to fight for you. If thats the case, you shouldn't play these games because, as you have seen, he will quit and leave you in this position where you expect a fight for you and its not coming.

He said he was feeling lonely. Coming back after no contact for 8 months because you are feeling lonely but the moment he didn't get his expected reply he starts talking to someone else? This has been on off for 4 years where he'll text every 6 to 8 months saying he misses me or he is lonely. Everytime he comes back is either he is bored, lonely or horny. Or he broke up with someone. I love him but I'm not blind. I accept him for who he is but I've made it clear that I'm not going to put with the third party situations or situation ship. How am I playing any mind game
