e. x your supervisor
Good question.
So some guy has an elevated job status *tells* a lower status worker; whom happens to be a female to 'feed/give me an ego boost' or truthfully 'feed my ego to make me feel better.'
That is the dynamic.
Sounds like a boy* needing his 'milk' from his mama.
It can mean a lot of things, and since I don't know enough, but you do, take what I listed and try to understand the what he means
based on the situation, job, and who he is, and why he is telling you, and does being female play a role in that.
It is likely he feels he has to compensate with the need to feed his ego.
This sounds like a lonely male that is trying to distract himself from what he lacks by compensating via distraction in false ways.
A great example is in events such as clubs, parties where guys drink to get confidence.
I call it liquid confidence. Its weak, and that try to talk to female while trying to get their buddies to hype them up.
weak.
Someone telling you to feed their ego is one, a validation seeking whore (who in their right mind says this out loud (people do seek validation)
And, two, they are likely to do something stupid; e. g. cross boundaries because they will get a high.
And the face its a guy, means he is weak since he is acting like a female- needing reassurance.
a guy seeking validation is what to you miss?
And do you understand?
And, if you don't care about the job, next time he says something stupid, add something like ''why don't you ask your mama for that' better yet milk'
And f*ck off.
Always hold yourself to a standard and don't allow someone, especially just because they are your supervisor to same stupid/weird shit that makes you uncomfortable.
Gotta go, but let me know what you think.
peace miss.

+1 yIt means they like you but you're not picking up on social cues and it's mildly infuriating.
Some people don't understand the politics of the workplace or they think they can avoid them by not partaking. It's a good way to fuck yourself and everyone around you.

Asker+1 ywhat made u feel that I was not picking up on social cues.

The whole question is the result of not picking up on a social que if you really think about it isn't it? There's nothing wrong with it. Usually when someone says that, we think of someone with some kind of abnormal deficiency mentally but the reality is that we all miss social cues all the time. It's probably one of the most common ways a misunderstanding happens.
When someone says something like that, they're showing a certain amount of vulnerability, even if it's meant as a joke. That means you're trusted to some extent. The fact you're 30 and asking this question shows that you feel as though you lack the confidence in your own social skills to come to a 100% accurate conclusion by yourself. Again, nothing wrong with that. If anything it's probably a healthy thing to do.
A supervisor wouldn't want to be quoted saying that so it seems pretty safe to assume they like you, unless they have so little respect for you that I feel the question would have likely been phrased differently.
It's also something that only a certain type of person would say under those circumstances which I inferred. So even if it was phrased as a joke or friendly jabbing, the fact remains that this person made themselves vulnerable to say it so it's unlikely there wasn't some element of truth to it.

All that put together with some personal life experience ( I've met/worked with people who say things like this) and a general study of psychology added in, the most logical conclusion is that this person judged your character that the best way to get you to do something (which you would have a better idea of what that is than I would. It could be anything from saying nice things about her in front of other people to help her get a promotion to her just wanting to get you to show a little more comradery or maybe you reacted to something in a way that made her feel insecure and she respects you enough not to lash out.) is to appeal to a soft quality you have which could be any number of soft qualities like being a nurturer, playful, comedic, indirect, insecure, maybe you have a bubbly personality. Again, there's nothing wrong with having moments of any of those things.
Also keep in mind, I'm describing something most people aren't conscious of the fact they're doing, in great detail.
I also made the assumption that your supervisor isn't just some weirdo because if they were, why would this even be a question?
Asker+1 yI really appreciate your answer and your level of detail - I think u have the most accurate answer.. although I still don't know what my boss wants me to do and why would he feel that this statement would get me to do whatever he wants me to do... I was asking this question because I never had someone request this before..
I really appreciateyour answer though.
Asker+1 yI usually do whatever he wants me to do with no problem.

Without context, it's hard to go any further than my origional answer. It could be anything from a compliment to a threat 😂.
My guess now that you're saying it's a guy is that it was either meant as a comedically underhanded compliment about your work ethic or a flirt. That's the kind of thing I might say if I wanted to slowly open the door to flirting. From the guys perspective, he has everything to lose if you're not interested.
Who the heck says this? lol So weird. It means that they need a confidence boost I would think. I don't know what else that could mean. Maybe if you had some context to the situation that it was said in it might mean something different. Since this was a supervisor I have no clue why they would say that to someone under them. I think being in charge would give them the ego boost they wanted... oh well...

Asker+1 yAgree - it is a bit weird.
It depends on the situation, no? I’ve fed guys egos before to get what I wanted out of the situation. For example in my younger days I got pulled over for speeding (I was in the wrong, I was speeding) but I fed into the cops ego and got out of the ticket. Like sure I didn’t like how he talked to me but if feeding into that and making him feel great/powerful helped me then I’m gonna go do that.

Asker+1 ybut why would they blatantly request that - that is a bit odd?

+1 ythat means they want head... they want you to get on your knees to make them feel better... actually a supervisor said that to me 10 years ago... they can't flat out ask you to do that so they suggest things... and if you want a promotion you consider it.

Asker+1 yinteresting.
+1 yIt sounds like the person is in need of validation or they are so insecure, they need someone else to make them secure by feeding them lines of compliments. Just when I think people stopped surprising me, another person comes a long that surprises me more, lol, so yeah, I get it. I would say that's so weird someone would say that, but people are weird anyway! I'd day maybe that person needs some therapy for their insecurities because they are definitely tripping!

+1 yUsually it means you have a big ego and that they’re irritated by your ego but it’s always confused me because, if they want your ego to die, why would they ask you to feed it? It would be like having a pet that you really hate but then keep feeding it. I’m very confused now.

Ohhhhh. That makes sense. Nah. Don’t feed their ego. Let it starve and shrivel up.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI've seen many women fish for compliments and bait guys for attention. But rare is the woman that comes straight out and flat out says "feed my ego".🤣 Which is funny because most women are quite obvious about it. So you always wonder how they're deluding themselves.

Asker+1 yit is a guy who said that.
Opinion Owner+1 yI got that. But this is primarily what women do which is why I explained it with women. It's the same thing.
