Why would a guy want to know everything about a girl?

Me and my coworker have started a friendship where we text for hours at night (4-5 hours) he asks me everything from where I was born to what me religion is, he always asks for details like he want to know everything about me now, is this normal for a guy- girl friendship?

I mean it can be normal if you are just starting out as friends. He wants to know all about you. It might also be so that he has good conversation topics. I definitely wouldn't take this as a bad thing at all. I think as your friendship moves along you will get that less and less because he will have all the information about your life and who you are. I don't see anything wrong with it and perfectly natural for a new friendship. Plus what else are you going to talk about for 4-5 hours?
