Why wouldn’t a guy admit he likes a girl in real life but he told people who knows her he likes her?

Because there is no risk in telling other people what he thinks. He can also get information before getting the courage to tell her himself. For example, if he shares his thoughts with a friend, and that friend says, "Forget it, she's dating someone," then he won't risk telling her anything. If he learns she likes him too, it might encourage him to say something.

Telling her right to her face is probably very scary for him, fearing that she'll react badly. No one wants to be cut down by the person they think so much of. It might take him more information, more courage, and maybe some positive reactions from the girl in order for him to be honest with her.
