You know exactly what his intentions are. (Single, straight) guys don't have female "friends", because as a rule, they are not capable. Instead, they have "girls I want to bang, but haven't yet, and so I'll hang around them until I figure out a way."
Guys cannot be "just friends" with you if you are even remotely attractive and they're single or otherwise not getting laid constantly - and sometimes not even then. If you choose to pursue "friendships" anyway, you do so at your own peril.
The same reason a girl might befriend many guys. Put two and two together
