So when I told this man that I regretted having feelings for him then he said in return he didn’t care and you can go ahead & regret all you want. I asked him why he said what he said and he said because he was protecting himself. What is he protecting himself from?

Vulnerability. A lot of women only want what they can't have, and if they get it, they don't want it. They don't even realize this for themselves a lot of the time. Yours is another example because you are chasing a man that says he doesn't care... that is not an accident.

I am only going on what I see here... which is you making a 'MyTake' about a man that does not care. And still being interested enough to ask questions about why he does not care. Thus if who you are and what you are looking for is a man that is nice, warm, loving etc, then you would have moved on as soon as he demonstrated being the opposite.
