Guys, Is this guy not interested in me?

I texted my male coworker first, and he said it was great to hear from me. He texted maybe like 2 times, super short answers, but then didn't reply. My question basically is this bc of me not getting to know him well or is this just him not being interested?

He's suuuuuper quiet. We've worked together for like a year now and I only just recently started trying to talk to him. I thought the texting would be easier for him, but apparently not. Is this just bc he feels like he doesn't know me/trust me yet? (We hardly speak at work... we're both just awkward ig)

Or should I definitely assume that since I initiated this, he wants no part of it? Lol.

And by "it" I don't even mean a romantic relationship. I'm just trying to be friendly with the guy, and see where it goes from there...

If you work with him why would you try to get to know him by text? That makes zero sense.
