I think it stems from a power dynamic. They know they have something that the average person doesn't have.

What is an arrogance? Arrogance is confidence without the base.

I know many educated people. None of them are arrogant. I know many uneducated people, and they have a significantly high share of arrogant people.

But those are people I know... so hard to say what it looks like in the population.

My observation is that educated people mostly base their confidence on knowledge so the chance they will become arrogant is small. They are confident because they KNOW, but not arrogant. It also happens they forget to explain their base because, for them, it's obvious. They also have some areas for improvement.

With uneducated people, the situation is specific. They are divided into two groups. One is "I don't care", and another is "I didn't make it, and my rage is burning". Of course, I made a huge shortcut. But my point is that some uneducated people feel inferior, and it's an easy path to arrogance...

Life is not black or white. So we have all shades of grey with arrogant, educated people and chilled, uneducated people. But from my perspective, most of them simply don't care :D

Many are but some aren't.

Lots of people with higher degrees are as uninformed as the average TV watcher. But they assume that they know more than others because they graduated from university. They can be smug and condescending.
I know some people with BS degrees and doctorates who are complete idiots. Being an engineer, psychologist or medical specialist doesn't mean that you know much about anything else.

But I know highly educated people who truly are smart and informed. They are very down to earth and not arrogant at all. Although, they may not waste a lot of time arguing with closed minded ideologues who don't have the background knowledge to listen or carry on an intelligent discussion.

Sometimes... anyone who feels like they have something to prove is prone to come across smug.

Some of the nicest people I've ever met are uber competent, high achieving people. The worst people I"ve ever met are reasonably intelligent folks who never got their act together.

Well educated usually means highly indoctrinated, and part of the doctrine is to trust established voices and to listen to people of similar standing. So the arrogance is a direct result of the indoctrination.

Highly educated people know things and often have little patience with people who "believe" things. After Qanan people, flat earthers, 9/11 Truthers. Chemtrail nut jobs, holocaust and election deniers, Highly educated people are tried of these brainless assholes fucking up the world.

I think so. Both men as well as women. But sometimes I feel as though it’s usually women. Especially when they go to college. Because at that point it’s like they have something to prove to men. Instead of being humble, it’s an attitude. Not all. That’s why women who are college educated tend to have higher divorce rates. A lot of arrogance. Especially if she’s of the mindset I don’t need you I can just find another man.

It could be you just feel inadequate to them. I used to feel this way when I was younger. But now I have a higher net worth than most of my more educated peers.

Once you get passed 40 most everyone is established and you don't feel as much in competition with others.

I don't worry about it because God made me the same as Warren Buffet or Albert Einstein. We were born, we live, and we die. And the only thing that will matter in the end is the lives you touched and helped change

For the most part, yes. They'll bring up their education often and look down on you if you lack education. I've been used to it my entire life.

@HawkPerception Not only that, they'll often cite their education as proof that they know more about politics and how the world works because of their education, which is, in my opinion, utterly ridiculous, because the more money you earn, the less likely you are to be able to relate to doing without certain things.

I absolutely find it ridiculous. I do believe there is a correlation between education and intelligence. You need to be intelligent enough to get into med or law school and finish the programs, but intelligence is based on your ability to process information and how you rationalize it. Not every person that has a university degree, masters, or PhD is necessarily more intelligent than someone who's finished nothing.

It's sad because when I bring up articles about health or science that I read, people often say to me "Are you a doctor though? Are you a scientist?" and shit along those lines, when in reality I can out-debate them any day, just due to pure logic sense.

Where are you in the world? That could impact how you experience such people. Most of my acquaintances are more educated than I am yet I've rarely been exposed to unhealthy education related dynamics.

Education can be purchased, that is not an accomplishment. The are assho! es. One of the smartest people I ever met was a cab driver in Manila, PI. He knew more about world politics than 75% of the people in the USA.

degrees in everything from fire sciences, my teaching degree, human relations, state certified Motor Pump Operator, (MPO), Diver Operator (DO), Heavy Equipment operator (HEO), EMT Basic, AEMT & Medic, just about every diver cert except instructor, Ice rescue, NIMMS, Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, Incident Command, Haz Mat technician, Fire 1, 2 & 3, countless hours of continuing education training every year, constant training & teaching every year, Truck Technician, some business courses for budgeting purposes, and there are probably a few more that I have I but can't remember them at this point. Obviously, a memory course didn't make it on the list.
I always was and still cannot remember people's names when I meet them.
