What does it mean when guys from high school/middle school message me?

I was never popular in middle school or high school so a lot of men wouldn’t talk to me there was a few times when they would make sex jokes about me but wouldn’t have a full conversation with me or hangout with me it was more like a hi and bye kind of thing. But when it came to the popular girls who were always ugly and now they got uglier they would always approach them, talk to them, hangout with them. Years later about two years later after i graduated two guys I went to middle school with messaged and want it to hangout with me but I rejected them they wouldn’t stop messaging me until I asked them “why did it took them so long to finally message me” and one of them said was because I would make him nervous and didn’t know how to approach me the second guy said “cause your pretty and I didn’t know how to ask for a friendship and you have always been physically attractive” then These other two guys I went to high school with, also messaged me and both had messaged me for sex and I asked them the same thing why did it took them so many years later to finally talk to me and they both said because all the popular girls where known around school they were ugly but they would only get hit on for sex or because they knew where all the parties and loud people where at and we would never see you there but it all makes sense now pretty women are not in huge fake crowds and laughing in everyone’s face. So years later all of these 4 guys message me and want to hangout out. But I never understood this years later to finally message me to hangout with me. When we had went to the same schools for so many years.
