Hmm that is kinda weird that he didn't just say thanks. Like it don't take that much effort to just be like "thanks, appreciate you remembering".

As for him texting about your good memory instead, that could maybe be his way of saying thanks without actually saying the word I guess? Like acknowledging you remembered is his way of being thankful.

Or it could be he just wasn't thinking and took your text for granted without any gratitude. Hard to say for sure without knowing the guy.

If it was me though, I'd probably throw in a thanks just to not seem like a dick you know? Like "hey thanks, you've got a good memory remembering this." Takes two seconds.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now since it was just a birthday text. But if he makes a habit of not saying thanks when you do stuff, that would get kinda annoying after a while. Just something to keep in mind going forward I suppose.
