That's rather stupid. Even if they've been his friends for over ten years, it doesn't mean they wouldn't betray him if his girl was willing. In addition, putting restrictions on you is a red flag. It shows that he's willing to be controlling. If he's this way on something that could be rather innocent, what is he going to do later.

He is probably assuming his friends are loyal to him and therefore he doesn't see them as being a threat to your relationship. He has control over his own friends but he isn't able to control your friends so therefore he sees then as being a threat
