Boyfriend has notifications turned off and it bothers me how do I get him to turn them on?

We've been together about six months and in that time I noticed he has notifications turned off for social media and to me that is suspicous like he is hiding something but when I asked him about it he said he finds it annoying to have them going off and this way he is not bothered by them and he only checks social media when he wants and I said "what if I need to send you an important message?" and he said to SMS him, I said that may not always be an option and he said "it doesn't matter he's always had notificaitons turned off and it's not changing" and I'm just wondering if maybe he's hiding something, I don't even know his PIN yet what do you think?

You’re going to lose him w that type of mentality. Slow it down. You sound controlling, maybe even insecure. I don’t have my notifications on either because it is annoying. A the amount of apps and social media I have I don’t want all shopping up, plus it drains my battery more. You don’t need to know his PIN. If he gives it to you fine, if he doesn’t that’s fine too. Regardless even if you two are an item a person should still have some privacy. My girl and I have been together 14 years, she doesn’t have my PIN either. But I’ve never given her a reason to not trust me. And if you don’t trust him than why are you even w him? If he’s cheating he’s going to cheat regardless of whether or not you have access to his social media.

This is perfectly normal, natural, and smart.

Oh and who cares if you don't have his PIN - he's not obligated to give it to you.

Girl, take a deep breath. Don't suspect him until he actually does something truly suspicious. I have social media notifications turned off too. They're not important 99% of the time and are just constantly bothersome on my phone. I don't see anything strange about your boyfriend having his notifications off.

If it's an emergency, call him.
Let him do his thing, social media consumes a lot of energy and this might be a way to keep him less stressed and more present.

Also, "I don't even know his PIN yet" .. yeah, you shouldn't, that's a safety and privacy matter.

The reason he gave makes perfect sense. I have mine turned off for the same reason. Leave it alone before you sabotage your relationship. Being with someone who doesn't trust you, when you have nothing to make them to not trust you is exhausting and disrespectful and people will only tolerate it for so long. You should work out these insecurities before jumping in a relationship. When he dumps you, consider working on yourself before you get into another relationship.
