Ever since day 1, this guy from work & I have had this instant bond. We are not afraid to put each other in our place when we need to, we playfully banter & can have so much fun together without being offended. Yet, we both have admitted we have this sexual & romantic tension for each other that lingers between us at the same time. We discussed about being together but due to our differences on our beliefs/views & being coworkers we thought it would be best to be friends... one day I was mad with him and didn't know if I could remain friends without falling deeper for him and he told me, "he would rather be friends with me, than nothing at all." .

Ay yo tough situation. When a dude says he'd rather be friends than nothing at all, to me it usually means a few things:
- He cares about you and values your friendship, even if he can't take it further romantically right now.
- There's for sure attraction and chemistry there, but other factors (work, differences etc) are making a relationship difficult or risky.
- He doesn't want to lose you from his life completely. Friendship is better than losing the connection.
- Maybe he's keeping the door open a crack in case things change down the line. "Friends" is safer than a full break.
For you, I'd say roll with being friends for now if you can handle it without catching feelings too deep. Keep your options open too - don't wait around if another dude comes along you really vibe with.
But don't write this dude off completely either. Feelings can change once you're not right in each other's faces everyday at work. Give it time and see what happens.
Just try not to stress too much, keep it fun like you do normally. Easier said than done, I know, but play it cool sis. Hope it works out for ya!
It means he want to keep his foot in the door.
I think it means exactly that.
