What men think of smart women?

Does intelligence really matter to a guy when it comes to dating? If a women is smarter than you, is it off putting? From the people I meet, I realised that smart women are more likely to be single than other women. Is it because they are more selective or is it because men don't want them as much? I feel that successful men are more likely to go for housewives rather than high achieving women.

I like the smart and passionate ones although they don't have to be the highest educated. She might be a great artist, musician, dancer, writer, etc, with only a high school education and if she's passionate and talented and knowledgeable in her subject, I find that plenty interesting already to provide a lifetime of interesting conversation material.

Mostly I like women with whom I can have the most interesting conversations yet also the most emotionally-connecting, soulful ones. Those are my two favorite types of conversations that deviate from the everyday, boring type of small talk (something I don't mind in the beginning but always want to quickly shift into something deeper, emotional, and/or thought-provoking).

I also like highly independent and competitive women who are good in their own company with their own healthy set of friends. I like a formidable woman who can, in humorous ways with good sportsmanship, be both my greatest adversary and deepest companion both at once. I don't like overly agreeable and submissive women. That said, I don't like women so dominant that they'll challenge my leadership either; I like women who trust me to lead and make final decisions, but at the same time never be shy to let me know what they want so that I can make decisions that look after their well-being.

My wife is all of this. She's passionate, intelligent, soulful, independent, assertive, competitive, and still trusts me to lead all at once. She's a book editor and publisher by trade who worked her way from a lowly intern to lead editor after majoring in Japanese Literature.

One of the great things about my wife is that, being a book publisher and editor, she endless reads manuscripts and books. She has a never-ending love of reading. That always generates new conversation material.

One of my biggest fears when I was a bachelor was growing into one of those couples who just has the most boring conversations like:

Husband: It's a nice day, isn't it?
Wife: Yes, it's really nice.

Wife: These eggs are really delicious today.
Husband: I am enjoying them as well.

Borrinnng! That was my ultimate nightmare and fear of getting married is that we'd grow into a couple like that. With my wife, it's impossible.

I can't speak on behalf of other men and I'm admittedly not the most successful. I do all right as a software engineer with a small name in my little industry of computer graphics but I'm definitely not a millionaire or a celebrity.

Yet it doesn't make sense to me that a very successful man would pick a woman who aspires to be nothing more than a housewife. If all he wants is a domestic servant, he should have the money to hire one, two, even a dozen. I figure a true king wants a true queen. A true queen is not some housewife whose passions don't extend beyond cooking and watching soap operas.

Achieve: to bring to a successful end; carry through; accomplish.

It seems like you are focusing on completing tasks you don't value and claiming they are achievements, while failing at what you do value, and you think that makes you smart somehow...

Intelligence can be seen as a masculine trait so guys take a lot of pride in it. But intelligence makes a girl so much more interesting that I’d have more fun talking to ones who’s smart

I'm not into dumb. Average is fine. Smart is better.

I don't care about college degrees. But I do prefer a woman who is bright, curious, open minded and intuitive, has talents and interests, a career skill, motivation, and wherewithal.
