It could just be because he's a considerate person. As hard as it is to believe with modern dating, sometimes people really do things just to be a kind person, without any kind of ulterior motive.

A situationship isn't a friendship. It's a lot more than a friendship. Buying you gifts and such could easily be his way of reinforcing that you mean more to him than just a sex toy. Alternatively, it could also be a control thing.

Could’ve been a kind gesture, we can’t tell you his motive with factuality. Regardless if I were you I’d be keeping this in mind no matter what: he knows your available, knows your interested, and still doesn’t offer anything other than friends with benefits. That is an active choice he is making and boundary he is keeping in place every single day.
