Why would an older male coworker try to turn people against a young female coworker?

I might be wrong but I feel like this coworker/supervisor (40+) just doesn’t like me for some reason. He acts nice to me in front of others but is rude when we are alone. He ignored me most of the time to the point that several coworkers and even our boss pointed it out. He would react by acting nice to me for a week and then go back to ignoring me but is nice to everyone else as if I offended him in some way. I tried to be polite but distant with him to not get into trouble but now for some reason his closest work friends who have nothing to do with me start giving me dirty looks and side eyes and they would whisper to each other about me. What is his problem? I was always professional with him.

People who have a grudge or bias against someone aren't being logical, so don't expect a logical explanation.

You're trying to make sense of it and trying to convince him to drop it by being nice to him. That's rarely successful. Is his behavior affecting your ability to do your job? Then ask for a meeting with your manager.

No definitely not jealous. He is the only coworker that acted weird towards me from the very beginning. Since he is very sociable and pretty much talks to everyone it’s very out of character for him
