Why do some guys avoid direct eye contact with a woman they’re attracted to unless she looks first?

Those guys are mostly shy which would be me honestly. If a random girl looks at me I usually quickly look away especially if I checking them out. I personally have a very hard time locking eyes till we are talking to each other.
