so my friends boyfriend was talking to me (he is super rude to me, so he was kinda making fun of me) and out of no where he goes "wait, why don't you have a boyfriend?" I responded with I don't know, and he goes "oh, I just assumed it was cuz of your parents"

I don't date cuz I just haven't found the right person, but I also thought all the boys in my class just thought I am ugly.

Guys, can you help me make sense of this? thanks!

It’s truly just an observation. For the average 23 year old woman, they’ve usually had some sort of boyfriend or romantic past. So to be your age without a man, he may have thought it was because you had strict parents.


One thing he should’ve considered is that maybe you just don’t “want” a boyfriend, but society puts so much emphasis on being in relationships, getting married having babies, that’s it’s like an expectation once you’re within a certain age range.


So I don’t think his comment was cause for concern or offense, it’s just a question with no need to look for deeper meaning.
