Why would a Guy reach out to me again if he’s not interested?

I hired this guy for a job a year later he reached out and asked for my number I gave it to him and he only text me once a day or every few days. after about 6-7 weeks I cut him off I haven’t spoken to him in 3 months but recently he commented on my ig food photo and reached out. when I replied to his message it took him a week to respond why would he reach out again if he’s clearly not interested?

Honestly people have lives and arnt on their phones texting all day. He sounds distracted. Maybe give him a ring and talk on the phone. Make it a regular thing
