Why would a guy plan a date then cancel a few days later (not last minute)?

He pursued me first, and asked me out soon after. I said yes, and for him to come up with the plan, he said of course he would. A few days later, he texts me asks me if I would be free the upcoming weekend, and if that didn't work to let him know. He planned a proper date, arranging place/time/etc. We had a couple brief text convos the few days after, nothing special until he texts me that he doesn't want to meet anymore (it wasn't last minute, it was about a week before our date was scheduled for). He tells me he just got out of a relationship and isn't ready for another one. He tells me im so beautiful and he loves my personality and we vibed pretty well, he seemed super into our convos. It makes no sense, why would he change his mind out of nowhere and waste my time?

To you it makes no sense but to him it probably does. Especially if she broke up w him. Of she broke up w him it more than likely is that he still has feelings for her. That it probably was t a mutual thing. He probably thought maybe meeting a new girl would help me move on, but than realize no I’m still twisted up on this girl. It’s also possible that they’ve started talking again. Maybe he dumped her but realized he made a mistake so they may be talking again. Maybe he met someone else who is much prettier than you. Maybe he just wants to be free for a bit, clear his head, straighten himself out before jumping into a new relationship right away. Which if that is the case than that’s probably the best thing. Because chances are you wouldn’t get his best if he’s still caught up on this girl or something.
