How do I fix an awkward situation in my friend group, with my guy mate?

A guy friend that was acting like he was interested, playing with his hair and leaning close, said I got it wrong, that he’s not into me romantically. I was relieved; as I feel exactly the same way, but if he wasn’t, why was he leaning close and later, questioning me about my relationship status? More to the point, how do I stop things from getting awkward between us?

lol sounds like you read that all wrong. Men don’t play w their hair when they’re interested in a girl. If he’s leaning on close could be he’s just comfortable talking to you, he doesn’t have to keep up his guard. Doesn’t mean he likes you as more than a friend. As for why he was asking about your relationship status, it could have been because of the situation at hand.

I read your question again.. Clearly you have 'friend' status with this guy, so could you in a firm but comedic way, wave your finger at him and say something like.. now don't go getting ideas...

Guys will backtrack when turned down to save face. That doesn't mean it has to get weird. It's only weird if you both overly worry about it. I would pretend it never happened.. the longer it goes on, the more you'll bot forget about it.
