I get making eye contact or smiling can be flirty before approaching someone.
But sometimes some men look you deeply into the eyes with a blank expression. Like they’re staring in your SOUL.
It makes me feel uncomfortable and maybe they’re thinking about me sexually?
Is this true, what does it mean?
I would hold your horses on the “are they looking at me sexually” part. After all they are looking you into your eyes and not up and down your body. Men are often told by women that is more respectful and genuine.
Anyway men are told that making eye contact is a sign of confidence and assertion. We are told the makes us more trustworthy. There have been multiple studies that people who avoid eye contact can be hiding something, lying or just having no respect of the other person.
I think you are overthinking it. Yes prolonged eye contact make some guys look like a psycho. But most of the time it’s well meant. Also he might be nervous (because he thinks your attractive) but self checking himself to appear confident and intentionally looking you in the eyes. Pay attention to his body language.
Funny you brought this up. I briefly locked eyes with an attractive young women at a local gym I walked into last evening. But I was not intentionally staring her up though.
It first happened right when I first walked in and I was headed to the locker room. She was on a cable machine and I was just next to my path to where I was going. She glanced over to me and we briefly locked eyes. I slightly smiled briefly. She slightly smiled back. But then I quickly broke eye contact and walked straight to the locker room.
I changed and walked out of the locker room and my plan was to warm up on a cardio machine (all the cardio machines are on the second floor). So I walked over to the stairs but she coincidentally was heading to the stairs at the same time too. So we crossed paths again. She look over me again and briefly made eye contact. Quick brief smile again and looked away.
Since she was the first to reach the stairs I decided to not use them and head upstairs right away. Reason being it would look like I was following her and that wasn’t at all my intention. Not really fair to me because I was just going along my business. But still I had a feeling she would feel I comfortable me walking up behind her on the stairs She was wearing tight yoga pants too and would assume the worst (or maybe best if she liked the attention) if was walking behind her.
It really sucks but I am extra cautious around women nowadays in public settings especially gyms (and much younger women).
Hell she might of thought I was attractive too but I really don’t want to misread that. However if I ever see her again and smiles again I might say hello. But I wasn’t going to the gym just to check out girls.

Thanks. I am actually in a co-ed recovery group right now when it comes to issues on this. I got a long ways to go but I’ve gotten better at identifying my own behavior and how that can make women feel.
Just a few years ago I would have acted oblivious and walked right behind her. If it was lesser moment I might of let my eyes glance somewhere they shouldn’t. Would of told myself “well she won’t notice” but now I know she would. I know women can “feel” eyes on them.
Anyway she was very attractive but I she did smile back and lock eyes for a split second longer vs. acting like she didn’t want any attention.
If I looked like a potential creep to her I don’t think she would of reacted that way. Not a guarantee she thought I was attractive too. But not a bad thing either.
I don’t mind if a guy is trying to make eye contact or whatever if he’s interested. But I do mind when they do it so deliberately to make me feel uncomfortable or continue to do it even when I’m ignoring them or pulling faces
Well he might not know you are making uncomfortable unless you are obviously trying to ignore him or pull faces.
Guys are usually not as good at picking up on “passive” communication women use. Especially younger and/or inexperienced guys. Most of the time they don’t mean harm (but I fully admit that true creeps exist).
I know it’s hard and being that you are a young attractive woman you likely have to deal with this more often then you should. But give men “some” wiggle room unless they don’t stop when you made it obvious you don’t want to engage with them. You are welcome to get as bitchy as you want in that scenario.
But up to the point please don’t assume the worst all the time.

Try to check your emotions when you are in that situation. He often has no idea what mood you are in. Or if he’s nervous he might say something offbeat despite being a decent guy.
I’m not saying all women should always give all men the benefit of the doubt.
But from what I’ve seen too many women (particularly western women) seem to always assume the worst in awkward situation and/or if they don’t find the guy attractive.
For guys this sucks. Makes some of them give up altogether. Think of that example above I gave about my earlier gym encounter. I did get a momentary positive vibe from that attractive young lady who briefly made eye contact with me and smiled in the gym.
10 years ago I probably would of said hello to her. But nowadays I just won’t risk it. It is the gym after all (and I hear women complaining about creepy guys all the time hitting on them in gyms). I am guessing I am 10-15 years older too.
But what if she thought I was attractive too? What if she actually would of liked me to say hello to her? It’s possible. But the risk was just too high all considered for me to gamble that.
@yahyahyah she might have been just being reflexively polite when she locked eyes and briefly smiled. Nothing wrong with that at all. But again our entire interaction lasted for at most 10 seconds.
If I happen to see her again at the same gym and if she reacts the same way I might introduce myself and say hello. But the sad reality is there is no guarantee I will ever see her again.
This is why I used to always say hello when I was younger. You miss every shot you don’t take. But again considering what I wrote about above there are just so many risks for guys today. Especially approaching a woman in a gym when neither one of us are likely went with the intention of finding people.
She was very attractive though. I know I look good for my age but I’m also not the 28 year old young stud I once was. That’s going through my mind too.
Men know that eyes are the window to the soul. It's just about the ONLY part of a woman we look at without thinking about them sexually.
You can use all the body language, dress up, word gam es you want, but when you really look someone in their eyes you get a pretty general; sometimes intimate, idea what they're all about.
It's a well known fact that men have this "ability" to mentally undress you... Sadly that's what's happening to you now in this uncomfortable and uneasy situation.
