My coworker is protective of me, does that mean anything?

He saw that I got upset bc of some random jerk and he immediately asked me what happened and if I need any help. It wasn't a big deal but he still told me that if someone is rude to me I can call him/ask for his help anytime. Is there a chance that he might like me?

Honestly I think it just means he cares about you. He may care about you as a colleague, as a friend but this sure doesn’t mean he’s attracted by you.
But it’s not something you have to exclude forcefully, I think you can just act normally and see if his behaviour towards you changes (for example he gives you attentions or tries to talk to you more time).

Just from this one instance it cannot be said for sure that he likes you. However, it is a very nice thing he did for you. He offered you to call him when needed so that is very nice of him
