What is wrong with my ex?

It's been over 3 weeks now. He was messaging me intently the first week. And slowly it's gotten less and less. Perfectly normal I know! I waa one asking why we even still texting? But he just wanted to. So i text like texting a friend. And he barely responds. But if I don't text he asks why I'm ignoring him? And then if I mention I'm moving on he suddenly blows up my phone with texts! I was gonna meet a guy and my ex was begging no don't, I will come see you instead. But it was lies. I've asked what is happening with us? He thought we were "taking it slow" to "not rush into same mistakes". But he makes do effort to want to see me or make up. So I'm moving on. So why does he act like he doesn't want me but cares so much if someone else might want me?

That's a good take on it. I just don't get why if he misses me he didn't try to make any effort to change or win me back. But then maybe he does, like me, know it would be pointless as it just wouldn't work between us. But he's lonely? But I said I would be just friends and text. But he has no right then to know about what I am upto in terms of dating? And get angry about it!
