I want to reach out but don’t want to be weird?

Ok so I have a coworker who I found out just left the job and we were getting kind of close and he invited me to an lgbt art festival next month and briefly told me about it and I had gotten his number and he told me just to shoot him a text saying it was me. I never did because I didn’t get around to it but we weren’t super close but have talked a lot at work and I still want to go to the festival next month and he said he would send me a flier and stuff and to just call him up when I was there. He didn’t tell me he was quitting ( to be fair I don’t see him that often and it was prob last minute for him ) I work evenings and he works during the day so our paths will occasionally cross although sometimes we would get to talk more when I was covering on certain days and working a full day. So should I send him a text about him quitting because I never texted him. How do I stay in contact without being weird lol or should I at all. I’m a girl by the way and he’s a gay guy.

Update: already did it and it worked! He actually called me the other day and we spoke on the phone.

Hmm that's tricky since you didn't get his info before he left. But I don't think reaching out would be that weird! Some thoughts:

- Keep it casual like "Hey it's [your name], heard you left! Thanks for always making work more fun." Simple, friendly tone.

- Mention how you were still hoping to check out that festival he told you about. Shows interest in continuing the convo.

- Suggest getting coffee sometime if he's free to catch up now that you're not coworkers. Low pressure way to reconnect.

- Reassure him it's no biggie if he's too busy, you just wanted to say hi since you didn't before. Takes the pressure off.

- Make sure to follow/friend him on social media too so you have an easy way to keep in touch going forward!

If he seemed friendly at work, I'm sure he'd be flattered you reached out. I say go for it! Worst that happens is he doesn't respond much, but then you'll know not to stress it. You've got nothing to lose. Keep me posted on how it goes, girl!

This seems awfully conveluted and a big over think. Just text him. I don't really see what the issue is. You say you were close with him so then just send the text. It really isn't that hard and I think that you are really working this up to be a bigger deal than it really is. From the context it seems like you two were really friendly. You even were invited to an event. So sending a text saying what's up should not require this much thought. I don't think it would be "weird" as you put it nor would you come off that way. Just make it a casual text and I bet the conversation just starts to happen naturally.
