Why do some guys asked if you are talking to them, when you are talking to someone else?

Okay! I was at Trader Joe's and as I was leaving out the store, I pretty much call for my mother in the back of the cashier, in order to see where she was. The cashier man looked at me and say are you talking to me? I was like no, I was talking to my mother and he was still looking and staring at me as if I was supposed to talk to him lol. The people around the cash register laughed about it, because that was weird 😐. I didn't even call for him lol. But I wonder why some men think you are talking to them, when you pretty much call someone else?

He might genuinely not have heard who you were addressing, especially in a noisy environment or if you used names or pronouns that could apply to multiple people in the room. Sometimes, people seek validation or attention, so asking if you’re talking to them can be a way to insert themselves into the dialogue. Alternatively, if he overheard part of your conversation and it seemed relevant to him, he might think you’re talking to him and seek confirmation.

That’s odd, especially if you’re saying mom I can understand if you just say hey they would think that, but when you say it with the word, mom, that’s odd

Yeah I thought so too, that's why I had to asked, but people did laugh when he did though and he was still staring at me lol
