I was waiting at the traffic lights when a guy drove by me by bike, looked at me and gave me thumbs up. Why?
😂 that’s hilarious (sorry). It could’ve just been his way to be friendly, or wishing you well.
Could’ve been attraction-based and saying you look good, but I feel like that’d also be more of a ‘ok’ 👌 than a thumbs up. Thumbs up is friendly. Very, very innocent. Even kids do it. So if anyone was trying to be sexual with it, they kind of failed. He could’ve even whistled or something or blew a kiss, but just gave a thumbs up. Maybe he meant your outfit looked good that day? 🤷♀️
I think it was ultimately just friendly.

Maybe he saw you looking at him. Sometimes there is an awkward moment when two strangers eyes meet, and rather than just staring at you he decided to try giving you a somewhat benign symbol of approval.
The other day this young girl crossed the street using the crosswalk in front of me as I waited for the light. I was just scanning the scene and mostly watching the light. She nearly stopped and turned, and she looked right at me and gave me such a beautiful smile. I smiled back, of course, and she laughed and gave me a quick wave. It was just a moment of connection, and she acknowledged it with a quick wave. Maybe your situation is similar.

+1 yO. As someone who did that when I was in my teens and early 20's, I can tell you that you shouldn't read anything in to it.. I use to hoot everyone and wave, or thumbs up...
The morons in the car (and yes, I admit to being one too) did it just to see the look of surprise on people's faces, or sometimes they would wave back and think.. do I know them?
It's just immaturity. Best thing to do is ignore it!14 Reply

What can I say? Some morons never grow up!
Asker+1 yHe seemed friendly though so I don’t think he was trying to be a jerk

I was friendly too when I did it.. I was still a moron looking back. See the thing is. Guys don't do it to hurt or upset anyone.. It's just to see the look on the faces.. sometimes they will laugh, other times they will look as if they can't work out who you are but wave anyway.. it was harmless fun.. but still, immature...

+1 yI bike a ton. It's my main means of commuting. And I can say that in that context, he was probably just signaling that he appreciates you waiting at the light when he was making a right turn at the intersection. It's just a polite means of communication between people that see others do the right thing. I give people thumbs up all the time when they see me and let me go too.

+1 yThe act of giving a thumbs up could be seen as a symbol of endorsement. Maybe it was his way of validating your lifestyle, recognizing the powerful force that you are. I'm guessing you were carrying a leather riding whip or something, and he was just like 'Yeah, dominatrix, I dig it. 👍
00 ReplyWhat are you even thinking so much about that? We can't ask the man so we will never know for sure why he gave you that thumbs up.

Be honest. This is not the time for any false modesty.
You know if you got it going on.
That's why. Or either you did something that is seen as a polite move by a person on a bike. A lot of people don't treat bike riders that well.00 Reply
+1 yMaybe the stranger thought you were sexy.
