How to tell if a shy guy likes you?

So there is a guy at work, very socially awkward even when in a group with work friends he stays pretty much silent.

I grew an interest in him because I am the same way as him socially, lol. I can't list off many potential signs that he likes me besides that he does glance at me quite a bit. Last time, I decided to try and maintain eye contact when he did this, and that lasted about 3 seconds.

I asked my cousin who works with us for his age, and he gave it to me and then added that he was very single. Lol, not sure what that means.

Anyways, I know a lot of people are gonna tell me to stop being a wuss and just make a move, my brain doesn't work that way. I have to have some sort of evidence.

Lastly, does anyone have any suggestions on how I would get closer to him even in a non romantic way? I'm not exactly afraid of rejection, more of like freaking him out or making him uncomfortable. Especially since we work together.
