When a guy shakes your hand and holds it and you ask him did he mean to hold it and he says no shaking hands is a formality?

I have talked to him before a yr ago and I noticed he shows signs of interest but he says no to this question at the beginning of talking to him he asked me what were my intentions when I never hung out with him to the point of liking him and him asking that question was confusing and now he does this and recently I told him I liked him but he says he likes me as a friend with all that happening

You need to ask yourself what your looking for in the answer here.

It's perfectly true a handshake can be perfectly formal and have nothing with it. Though its also perfectly true that at times a person can put something on that they want to reflect. I have a friend who I feel deliberatley attempts to near sqaush my hand in a handshake, and I really suspect its to reflect a certain amount of frustration with me; but I also know he wouldn't think that way, so its likely subconsious or just a little form of rebelion about something he wouldn't bring up, but can enjoy a little 'dig' there.

So you may never know.

In general though, a guy saying 'he likes you as a friend' is not presently interested in you, and possibly is already in another relationship. That your reading into a handshake shows your feelings may havve already progressed quite far for him.

Talk about his life with him; Find out if he's in any relationship. If you discover he's not in any kind of relationship, it might be he's just keeping friends with all girls until he knows where he's at or if he likes some particular girl (which is actually really sensible). Just be his friend, if your finding your developing feelings where your not able to be just a friend; Make sure you express how your feeling, if he continues the 'just friends' line, decide if you can live comfortably with that given the way you feel, if you can't explain you can't and express if he changes his mind, seek you out; Then throw yourself into life and meeting other people etc. You don't want to waste your time with someone who remains unwilling to be in a relationship with you, but its worth leaving room for someone whos unsure to realise they want to find out more.
