Gentlemen, does it bother you if another man doesn't rise when extending his hand for a handshake?

Came across this clip & didn't care about it so was gonna just click off but I kept seeing comments about the fact that the guy didn't stand up to shake the other guys hand.

I actually didn't know it was a super important thing to do. Maybe I just stand up out of habit. But how do you feel about it? Is it important for you if someone stands to shake your hand?

The actual etiquette is a man stands shake hands, but a woman remains seated. There are tons of fussy little tidbits within etiquette that people just don't do anymore, so why should this be picked on so badly?

For example, the traditional etiquette for men and hats is that they should be removed indoors, while women can keep their hats on. Yet everywhere you look you see some guy in a ball cap walking into stores and into people's homes with their hat on. You don't see the stink online about men doing this. Why? Because we've evolved over time to loosen up with etiquette.

And don't get me started with how we've relaxed with dress code! There are many "rules" in books of etiquette that require you dress appropriately when attending certain functions, but I still see that one person who thinks it's okay to wear jeans to a wedding.

Anyway, that's my take on this. Handshakes to me are actually a tradition that I wouldn't mind seeing disappear. It was an ancient custom for men to grab their weapon-arms (usually their right arm) to show they are unarmed, meaning they come in peace or on good terms. Why we do it today is stupid if you think about it, because no one is holding a sword anymore. Yet in business, it's expected to still offer a decent, firm handshake when you meet someone or close a deal.

Today with the spread of germs and no real need to show you're unarmed, the handshake custom is a bit silly. So for a man to sit while shaking hands is picky thing to quip about since every other etiquette out there is being ignored and yet we never say a word about them.

I think it depends. Imagine Comic-Con- the men who are signing autographs standing up each time someone new comes… 10k people later….

in general, yes, men and women should stand when greeting others outside of old age or injury preventing.

Jake Paul is a bad example of a male role model. As for standing when shaking hands, it is just a respect thing but clear Mr. Paul didn't have a good masculine figure in his life to teach him that.
