Men compliment my appearance

I work at a store and deal with tons of people everyday. Some are coworkers some are regular customers. When men have been complimenting my appearance lately I say thanks but I honestly don’t know what to say. Like they might say more about my looks beyond the initial compliment and I don't know what to say. It’s so awkward. I honestly don’t care? Like thanks but ok…? I don't know why they’re telling me lol no offense. I’m honestly confused.

Like you, I would feel awkward if I kept getting compliments about my appearance, I would even feel alienated probably. Unrecognized for who I am but only recognized for an appearance I didn't choose, as it comes from genetics. So yes, the awkwardness is legit lol.

It is cultural, many men have been taught that complimenting physical appearance is what women want. And many women have been taught that it is desirable to be complimented physically. The best thing you can do I guess, is to appear as you feel, if you are unimpressed, show it. But authenticity at work, that might be difficult to do lol

Thank you for understanding! That’s so true, both sides are taught that this is the way to interact (men complimenting our looks and we should enjoy such comments).

Yep authenticity at work is another matter haha. I just tryi to be polite but other than thanks, it’s hard to know what to say lol. But it’s ok. I guess awkward moments are part of human interaction.

Just say "thank you" it's the polite response. You don't owe them a smile if it doesn't make you smile.
