Why do men compliment me (on my hair, skin color, etc) when I have on no makeup and I’m in sweats but not when I’m dressed up?

Because when you aren't all dressed up, you are more approachable/less intimidating, and because men are more attracted to all-natural women than to women who are fake or artificial looking (yes, exceptions exist, but I'm talking about the majority). This doesn't mean they would object to a bit of makeup or a hairdo, but the more "natural look" and "girl-next-door" a woman is, the more universally attractive she is. That's always been true.

I went to high school with a woman who looked like Wonder Woman (we even convinced her to wear the costume on Halloween). She was a very beautiful, tall, statuesque woman. She was also very shy, but nobody really knew that because she carried herself with confidence.
One day a friend of mine, who was a short, average looking guy asked her out and she said Yes. He explained that his theory was that very hot women didn't get asked out a lot because men were afraid of rejection so he gave it a shot.

Maybe the men think that because you aren't "made up" their compliment will carry more weight. Like maybe it will make their compliment seem more genuine because they are complimenting you without any of the extras just plain old you with no extra layers of glam.

A little accentuating is okay, but if you're naturally attractive why hide it?
Or is it a girl's thing? Many don't like to see that all the effort they went to means nothing next to a pretty girl who doesn't even need to try. So makeup that hides the real you is often the great leveller!

A lot of men prefer what a woman looks like naturally without makeup and dressed up nice. This is because that if a woman looks beautiful to them like that she looks even better all dressed up and made up. If you're not getting compliments when you have makeup on maybe it because you are hiding you're good looking features with the makeup and not accenting them.

At least for me, I prefer the natural look.
