A guy offered me to have coffee together?

I know this guy for three years, we took same classes but never talked that much, just a few questions about lessons. A few days ago, I was having dinner with my friend at cafeteria. Then he and his friend came and sat with us. (My friend and he are friends) We chatted and it was fun, in a friendly way.

The next day he posted a story, and I replied him bc it was kinda related to things we talked at the meal. He replied me in a fun way. And he said "You seem to change a lot in a positive way, I would like to talk about it while drinking a cup of coffee with you."

I understood it like a date? I didn't want to give him hope so I said "Yeah, let's go together with others." But he replied "I thought about going just you and me, of course we can invite them if you want." Then I got a little bit nervous, he must have felt it so he said "I am sorry if I caused a misunderstanding. I just want to talk to you about life." by the way he has lots of female friends.

So I accepted it, but I still kinda nervous bc I don't want any relationship things now.

The thing I wanted to ask is, would a man invite you for coffee so quickly, only in a friendly way?

We went out together twice. He was very friendly and that's all. I assume that it seems like a date from outside but the things we talked said otherwise. And I found out he was like that to all people that he values.
