I used to work with a guy I had a crush on. He suddenly lost his job and I miss him. I was thinking of reaching out to him. But I was wondering will he think I am crazy if I just text him? If I get his number online somehow?

Assuming you start the conversation with something like "Hey, this is [yourname] from [workplace]", and then go on in some natural way, I don't see how that could be a problem. Just don't make it sound like you're stalking him.

And in case he doesn't want to talk, be ready to explain how you got his number. There's nothing wrong with looking him up in the phonebook (do they still make phonebooks?), but that's ALSO what a crazy stalker would do, so be prepared.
