Should I leave him alone and just smile from a distance. A guy I’ve liked and have been talking with briefly at work- works in a different department and when we saw each other, I could sense a lot of chemistry. He seems shy, an his father is in hospital from COVID so he seemed, in his own head. I’d been talking to him and my coworker told me just give my number to him already. Well, I did 4 days ago and he still hasn’t texted. I know he’s going through a lot and maybe I’m not seeing a hint, but should I just leave him alone? I’d still smile & say morning, but I won’t approach him anymore to chat. I can’t tell if he’s just wanting me to leave him alone or he’s not interested anymore. .

Leave him alone, you made a move and it's up to him. Try to occupy ysf with other things and dont have too high hopes. You wouldn't leave him hanging like he is doing it to you, would you? So id take it as a negative sign. Regardless of being shy he should make an effort.

Give him some time. If his dad is ill he may be busy attending to him, or maybe just not much into the headspace to deal with a new relationship until his Dad's situation resolve. You don't have to give up just yet, but don't push fora while.
