Why would he suddenly ghost me after 5 years?

hi, for reference, I'm a 16-year-old girl and I've liked this guy since I was 11, but not so much anymore.

Me and this guy, Dave, have been really close since the age of 11. Not just mentally but physically as well (nothing sexual. stuff like platonic hugging). He used to always tell me about everything and listen to me as well. I talked to Dave a lot over these past years and became even closer with him. We had all of our classes together for a while, and then we only had one class together in grade 9. In grade 10, we had no classes together other than our one English class in semester 2. Because we didn't have many classes together, and he never started a conversation, I did not bother texting him for two months. I noticed we shared an English class so I started talking to him again, but for some reason, he went from being really kind and affectionate to no longer talking to me. AT ALL. He would take over a day to send a reply to a text, and when I wished him a happy birthday in real life, he purposely ignored me. Fast forward a couple of months later, I've noticed that he has been hanging out with the 'popular' group and has been talking to multiple girls. My main question is, why did he suddenly start ignoring me when we were so close in the past?

Ohmygosh girl, that is so rude of him! I don't know what's going on in that boy's head but it is not cool how he treated you after being so close for so long.

A couple thoughts - he could be going through something personal at home and pulling away from everyone. Or, he might be at that age where peer pressure gets to guys and he wants to seem "cool" by hanging with the popular group. Either way, not an excuse to toss a friend aside like that!

My advice would be hold your head high. Don't chase after him begging for answers cause that'll just give him an ego trip. You deserve better than being an afterthought. If he comes around wanting to explain, you can decide if you want to hear it.

For now, focus on surrounding yourself with your real girlfriends who don't flake. Maybe join a new club or sports team to meet new people too! This boy's loss - his loss, your gain. You've so got this sis!!

Boys will come and go but you'll always have yourself. Don't waste another thought on what's-his-face. You're awesome with or without him! Chin up, keep smiling - you deserve the best.

People change and grow apart. Especially in the teens. I know it's hard and sad, but you need to accept this and move on. You can't do anything better than that.
