Trending & News Many men fear being perceived and treated the way he sees women perceived and treated, culturally. This is not a glitch, this is a feature of society. Men are trained to feel this way bc of the reality of the situation where women no matter how much men may “love” them are not presented to men as intently worthy of respect as competent capable human beings, rather more like a favorite pet.
Just about the worst insult people seem to have for men is “he’s acting like a woman” — which is in reality an insult to women with the guy being used as the vehicle but not the actual target point. In this insult the guy is “acting” it’s shameful but with effort it is something he can be seen to overcome, he can stop “behaving badly” behaving like the worst thing possible, a woman.
Whereas for a woman, well, she has no hope of escape bc she IS a woman. She is not “acting” indeed no matter how she acts, she will never undo the damage of being born a woman. This is her lit in life…
There is a swath of information being communicated to both men and women when a guy gets called “feminine” that it is undesirable, unfortunate, shameful, laughable, something to be “handled” by others and overall a lamentable fate, a punishment even.
of course everyone has feminine and masculine traits and with that this we would be unable to function. You need to rise to an occasion but able to show restraint when needed. If you can’t rise or if you can’t stop, both are dangerous. The balance is essential. Like the Sun and Water. Try living without one. Forever.
Most people fall fairly evenly in the middle, with very slight leanings more one way or the other, relying more heavily on some traits or other traits adapting oneself depending on what the situation and what is called for…with a tiny fraction of society falling into extremes.
despite this, many men are raised to believe they can not be men without looking down on women they it is there job to handle and possess women like you might domesticate a wild animal, Whether the form is benevolent soft covert control or tyrannical overt control, violent form in both cases the view is women are not quite human to be respected but are rather a problem that needs to be solved.
so understandably, if one sees themselves as not already inherently amongst those wretches, cast to a life of tragedy and tribulation living in that predicament and, if one feels you they have the option, one would of course choose to have absolutely nothing to do with it and you might go to extremes to ensure their security from being targeted as that unfortunate “other.”
Stands to reason.. if you are such a person seeing the world in such a way. 🤷🏻♀️
Sexism isn’t just ignorant and idiotic, it hurts everyone. Not bc it’s “mean to women” bc it is a pathological condition creating an intractable state of despair rage and fear the confines which a human brain can not maintain health sense and reason living within.
It is damaging to both sexes, more so internally for those who are more vulnerable to it personally, but everyone has to deal with the consequences whether affected directly or indirectly.
I don't think it is because of him being afraid of being treated how he treats women, I think it has more to do with his social status with other men. A man who doesn't live up to masculine standards by other men is judged by other men... Kinda like a woman who is too sexually liberated is judged by other women. Same kind of thing.
So you don’t think this man fears being treated like a woman by other men?
You don’t think that men ostracize women?
I think that it depends on the situation. I definitely think some men who act like this are projecting who they are on others. They want to seem masculine and strong, they accuse men of being cucked by their significant other, and the list goes on. Just to find out later on that his wife was the one having a affair in some cases even finding out some (if not all) of his children aren’t his. But he was the one shouting from the rooftop what a real man he is and all about how men are beta cucks.
It does depend on your definition of feminine though if a dudes wearing dresses or something that’s a little odd to me I mean it’s his business but. If someone’s dressing their son as a girl that also doesn’t sit right with me. Things like that…
I really don’t understand what men get though from marrying a woman whose useless and really cannot do anything. I guess it’s a power control thing but those kind of women tend to be who makes men miserable. Some people do deserve one another though I’ll say that is for certain.
Question of treatment is interesting but I don't know really because...
The way I see it, it's all about fear of non-conformity. In that case conformity to (what is perceived as) manhood. Just like conformity to be feminine for a woman, conformity to be a black person among a black population, a white person in a white population etc. Going away from conformity, in any group, is going to be socially punished, we all learn that through experience, no matter the area, this is integration/rejection dynamics.
A fair take on the situation, though that does make me wonder if the conformity itself is currently changing or needs to change
It is changing, as we speak, and more than that, I believe it is even more changing the more we talk about it. That's my belief at least

No I actually don't. I think that men who act hyper masculine or try to eliminate the Yin from their personalities completely is an indication of a man who is unsure of his own sexuality. Despite our gender we all have characteristics that are considered masculine and some considered feminine. Both genders. UI think what often happens is that a man who is homophobic is afraid of his own feminine side.
I won’t disagree that a lot of closeted bi and gay men are presenting as homophobes but I think that begs the question of if a feminine man is gay, are gay men socially equivalent to women in their minds?
Yeah somewhat. There’s a reason why those same straight men hate being hit on by gay men. They don’t want to be treated like a piece of meat by someone that they’re not attracted to, the same way they treat women.
Not exactly this but something similar is those men at gender reveals when they are devastated and crying to find out they are having a girl because really they fear their daughters will end up being treated the same way he treated women
I don’t think it’s accurate. Maybe with the fuckboy douchey bro types but in general I think that it’s more about status and social pressure among other men that makes them fear being seen as “feminine”. I worked in bath and body works one summer in college and witnessed a guy walk out of the store and get made fun of by a group of guys for shopping there even though he was only there buying a birthday gift for his mom (I knew that because I helped him pick out the gift he bought her).
This question isn’t about loving masculinity, it’s about hating femininity and being associated with it as a man. I’m sure the guy shopping for a present for his mom felt embarrassed at the time, but is he the one that hates femininity? What about the people who made fun of him?
This is highly inaccurate. Not wanting to be seen as feminine has nothing to do with how a man treats his woman. Plenty of very masculine men treat their women like queens.
But it’s not about being masculine, it’s about being perceived as feminine. And we’re not just talking about the women a man dates but also everyone else
Most likely they have a feeling of inadequacy or something I would guess.
So femininity = inadequacy?
No. Fear of appearing feminine is due to not being comfortable with his feminine side which stems from a lack of confidence, which could come from many reasons.
These seem like two totally unrelated aspects of male psychology honestly...
Why?
Women aren't attracted to men who act feminine. The way a person treats women is completely subjective and not correlated with perceived masculinity.
Actually fearing being seen as feminine is usually only seen in men who aren't comfortable with their sexuality, however this does not mean he is abusive or treats women poorly.
I really have no idea how you associated these two traits with one another. This is like that opinion piece that said "the way you feel about Taylor Swift is the way you feel about all women".
Can’t recall ever posting about Taylor Swift. You must be confusing me with someone else. But I do think that saying homophobia being related to a fear of masculine femininity is a good place to draw on
It was someone else's opinion piece, not yours.
Yeah, I'm a sub so women have their way with me
Do you think submission is inherently feminine?
No way. Not inherent to women at all
So why agree?
Agree to what?
Agree that feminine men are afraid to be treated like women while claiming to be one yourself
My bad, I'm sometimes embarrassed about being seen as sub but I love what dom women do to me... I don't fear how they treat me... I can't get enough
Inaccurate because men who like being masculine don’t necessarily treat women poorly and I have seen many feminine guys who are ruder.
It’s not about men being masculine, it’s about being afraid of being perceived as feminine. That’s not the same thing
More ways to attack men. Thanks
It’s not an attack, it’s a quote and I want to see the general opinion of it
Everything you talk about has to do with the way men treat women. You’ve never asked a single question about how women treat men. So excuse me if I don’t trust a single word you type
@SolitarySolace Who elected you gatekeeper of men now? Don't you have better things to do than imagining responsibilities you don't need, plus being attacked by what, a question? Come on lol 😆
Well a soy boy like you ain’t gonna do it 🤷🏻♂️
The fact that you used that specific insult tells me everything I need to know about you lol
@SolitarySolace I admit I rushed on your stance a bit strongly, but ey, the breach was obvious, I just couldn't resist, sorry for that. Can we share some milk?
upload.wikimedia.org/.../003-soymilk.jpg
No? Maybe not. Oh well...
Never thought about it
Nope
Why?
Because men are mocked by women for showing traits that are typically feminine. Many women will think less of a man who shows their emotions (cries during a time of stress etc.). Men grow up learning that it is bad to show interest in typically feminine pursuits, traits, interests etc. Not only do we get made fun of by other men, we are looked down on by women as well and contrary to what the quote is implying, men don't hate/see women as inferior, we actually care a lot about what they think of us.
But why do you think it is that so many people have so many problems with men pursuing masculinity, and yet women pursuing masculinity is encouraged? Why is femininity only bad when men do it? Why is masculinity universally accepted?
I don't think most people consider femininity overall inferior to masculinity. Men failing to perform their prescribed gender role, which is dire for men as there is (or used to be) no room for variance in how masculinity is performed. That's what I think people take issue with.
Things like women being assertive might be considered empowering, but are women not also insulted for not being "real women" or "nice girls? Or whatever else. Not wanting to have kids, be a wife, etc. Not performing their gender role.
Do you think gender roles are important as things stand now? Should society still adhere to them?
As long as all the essential tasks for living get done it doesn't matter who does them.
Sounds like a lot of bullshit
No these are two totally different things.
How so? Again, this is not about a love of masculinity, it is specifically about a hatred of femininity.
A man is still a man, he's still going to be treated like a man,. And that means unfortunately that he might be ridiculed for not being as manly, if that Really is the case. Society can be brutal. And how we treat women... I treat them not so differently. I'd see no difference if I was in his shoes.
Okay, so he’s not manly, why is he then ostracized for exhibiting femininity?
We're back on the conformity perspective I'd say, ostracism is rejection of a nonconformist behaviour, in order to secure identity of a given social group
No I don't care
