At work, I was walking through the door way and the watchman said "hello". I looked at him and he deliberately avoided eye contact as I said hi back. I just found this kinda weird. Why would you be welcoming and friendly enough to greet someone then be cold to not make eye contact with someone you've just greeted?

Perhaps he isn't a real friendly person and he is just saying hello because it is his job and he has to interact per whatever guidelines he is given. Maybe he had a bad day and that was the best he could muster up. It is really hard to say but my guess is he is just an unfriendly person and he is saying hello because he is required to acknowledge people as they enter. I can't really think of another reason why tht makes any sort of sense to me. I also can't really relate no working in a place that has a watchman. Maybe if I did I would have something to compare it to but I work in a bar when I am in school and we have bouncers that are rather friendly,... until something goes wrong lol.
Cus he doesn't like making eye contact? I don't like making eye contact either tbh. I have it for important conversations.
