Why did he act like that if he wasn’t interested?

Been dating/seeing a guy for only a short few weeks, from the start he was lovely. We had a few dates and we would talk about everything and anything for hours. He seemed quite open about his life, family and asked a lot of questions about me and mine.

Thought it was a casual thing and to see where it goes, stayed over at his a couple of times in a week, he was amazing, very affectionate and I found him to be quite intense with me for something causal. He got annoyed I didn’t want to stay the night after, so the second night I did. We did have a conversation a few days later and it ended with “if you dont want to see me again just say so, I love being around you, having sex with you and I’m very comfortable around you”

fast forward a week and we met for coffee, he asked me why I didn’t kiss him hello and he kissed me, kept saying how beautiful my smile was and I smelt good, again when leaving the cafe kissed me a lot and said if I was free the next day, was all very odd as still didn’t think it was anything serious.

he ignored me the next day when I asked if we were seeing each other later and eventually when I asked he said “ your right I should of said but I’m not in the right mindset after coming out of my 8 year relationship a few months ago and I don’t want to waste your time, you are amazing and I’m glad I met you”

I left it there, he has a barbers near me and I saw him yesterday and he just kept looking at me non stop until i made it obvious I could see him and waved.

Why did he act like that if he wasn’t interested?
