Is "teaching" about mechanical things a sign of a guys interest?

A repairman asked my friend if I was single a while back and gave me his personal number but more in a repairman aspect not in a personal aspect (I think?) but hadn't been initiating convos, responds quick and with longer messages though, but not encouraging much additional convo. When he comes to fix things, he often explains the mechanics of the item he's fixing. I've not encountered this with other repair people. This guy explains how it works and how it's supposed to work and why it's not and shows me the parts, even though my company pays for the repairs. Other repairmen generally have kept is short and only the necessary details. Rumer has it he doesn't date people at work, but it's his rule not a work rule. But I can't figure out why he'd care if I was single or not, so trying to analyze other interactions.

In the context that you describe I don't think it indicates interest. Some people are just like this. I did similar work. I would take the time to explain everything I did if the customer seemed interested. (Usually they weren't.)

Of course he won't make as much money that way, but it's the way he chooses to do things. He is probably doing this with all his customers. Over the course of a day and several customers, it can be a substantial amount of time that isn't producing income. But might produce good will and referrals.

He's probably a people person, and enjoys teaching things. He's doing it for you as much or more than for himself.

For one, he seems really passionate about his work. I've seen people like that before. But I do not know what his intentions are.
