Can you explain the need for games to be brand new?

Im cool with getting a Nintendo game second hand as long as it works and I can use all of its functions, I get if there’s memory stored then I’d go for the new copies but my boyfriend needs them to be brand new in the packaging and treats second hand things like its appalling maybe there's just something that men like about new games/things but I want to just get a different opinion so I can understand a bit more ehy he's so admitted about it being unused

Your boyfriend has probably just never liked the idea of thrifting at all. Lived a lifestyle where it was never something he had to think about or worry about. That’s all it is, more likely than not. Just buy a used game and was the sticker off of the box before you give it to him. He’ll never know the difference.

They are new because you just bought it, but others have been using them. Hmm.

Depends, if you got it with the case and everything is in pristine condition, second hands one are pretty good as well. The problem is sometimes you pay about the same price for new and used ones, in this case i would also go for the new ones.

Oh yeah, and sometimes there are one time use codes for downloadable goodies included, and these are probably used up and gone if you buy second hand.

I prefer new if the price difference is small, but used is fine if everything is included and in good condition. I need the case and whatever else came with the game.

As a man, I’m opting for 2nd hand.

There is something about opening a brand new game, sealed, and being the first to play it / having it on your shelf to look at as you play…. Though if the new one isn’t on sale then I’d opt for 2nd hand.

With Nintendo Switch Games, there is a “sales tax” compared to Xbox or Playstation Games. Just for the ability of playing it in a plane, car, hotel room, school cafeteria, operahouse, under the sea, in space, while skydiving, on the toilet they charge you more for less… It is less a good experience than you’d find elsewhere just for playing it on the go which sucks. You totally should get games 2nd hand especially if you want to save money on the game (s) that you love. You do you, let him judge all he wants he plays his way and you play your way. Thank you!

Oh also side tangent, back in the day you could play games wirelessly ‘for free’, now you need your own copy of the game which who is paying $120 on MarioKart…. Like yes you can separate the controllers, though to use separate consoles it is $120 which sucks compared to free so I’d encourage sale / 2nd hand just to do that so you don’t lose an arm and a leg for wanting fun with your friend, roommate, or significant other.

Some games you would technically HAVE to have brand new. The WWE games I buy, have DLC, so, if you don't buy it new, and pay attention to when the DLC is, you might miss it, later on when they close that portion of the game down for good. But, if there's no DLC, then no, you don't HAVE to have it new. The only reason he might want it new, is so that it's in working condition and doesn't have to worry about, "oh, is it going to work" etc..
