Why would a guy walk away when talking to you?

There’s this guy that I’ve been interacting with at work. It started off with him staring/gazing at me and then we would smile. We are now on speaking terms but just very briefly.

He is constantly smiling when we are chatting and he maintains eye contact. The thing that really confuses me is that when are talking, he won’t stand still and he is sort of backing away from me or trying to walk off.

Could this be because of shyness/nervousness? What do you think?
