A real man to me is someone who knows themselves well, faces their fears and doesn't look for cop outs and respects others. Probably the most important way you know if someone is a real man is by how honest they are.

If someone checks these boxes here's how that plays out.

Someone makes you feel threatened:

A boy: gaslights, lies about them, tells themself they're not afraid, avoids confrontation, speaks poorly of them, sabotage their success etc.

A man: learns more about the person by building a relationship, is likely to maintain a neutral opinion about them in conversation, protects themself by approaching slowly and with enough empathy to understand the situation he's in.

Woman:

A boy: lies and manipulates multiple woman at a time because he needs validation. Will brag to friends about his dating life. Likely has no idea if he wants a family or not. Does not handle sensative topics in private. Has no respect for women. Everything is her fault "and even your friends agree" is a rugular flavor of defense.

A man: respects woman. That is someone's daughter, could be someone's mother one day, no matter what they think about politics or where equality is at, men have enough life experience to have the empathy required to understand this is a man's world. Even if many things are easier on woman, there are many things that are harder and just like you should respect other men, woman should be respected to.

Someone tries to be aggressive:

A boy: regularly tries to escalate situations. Does not have the empathy or respect required to ask himself what can be done to avoid destruction. Becomes jaded. Allows his emotions to take control of the situation.

A man: is not likely to respond to a typical act of aggression with more aggression (this is a complicated topic and why men need father's in their lives) uses empathy to decide which course of action should be taken. Approaches conflict methodically, thinking carefully about the ramifications of his actions. Probably wants to fight a little bit, win or lose. Is not controlled by fears of outcomes. Will use their emotions to intuitively enhance his ability to respond appropriately.

A real man knows his purpose in life, respects everyone as a fellow human being with flaws and their own stories. Even if you're talking about a skinny, bum working at the liquor store, he might be more of a man than they guy at the bar handing out stadium tickets and buying people drinks.

A man is first and foremost, someone who aspires to be in control of himself and therefore hopefully the life they get to live.
