What does he do exactly?
Also you could ask him why you two are close then he suddenly becomes distant, maybe he isn’t aware of this behavior from his perspective. I’m oblivious to a lot of things too, so he just might be that way and needs a ‘notification’.
I’m sorry, I do want to help though I need more context / more explanation of what is going on.
