Your preference is YOUR individual preference, and who you find attractive / appealing is based on your OWN personal attraction.
Your mother should have nothing to do, or any say with regard to whom you are / are not attracted to.

I guess you're right. I don't normally see women getting offended because their son doesn't have a girlfriend with the same hair color as them in movies or TV shows

To be fair I don't really feel the need to tell her. I normally tell things like this to men but I was wondering if telling that to a woman would be offensive
